Schmidt logs off as Alphabet chairman

Alphabet Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt will step down in January, ending a 17-year-run in which he played a central role in building a promising startup called Google into a global technology powerhouse. As Laura Frykberg reports, markets have been left pondering the timing of the departure, and what it means for the company as it heads into a potentially challenging 2018.
